MentorShield ("we", "us", "our") is committed to protecting and respecting your privacy. This policy explains what personal data we collect, how we use it, and your rights regarding that data when you use MentorShield.com.

Account data: Name, email address, phone number, role (student / tutor / parent), and password (stored as a secure hash).
Profile data: Board (Cambridge, IB, CBSE, Edexcel, AQA, OCR, US Common Core, ICSE), class level (Class 3–10), subject, and subject code preferences; academic level; profile photo; and bio information you choose to provide.
Session data: Booking history, tutor-submitted progress notes, and session feedback / ratings.
Payment data: Payment workflow is currently paused. If fee details are shared manually during this period, we only store essential transaction references and never store full card or bank credentials.
Usage data: Pages visited, features used, device type, browser, IP address, and referring URLs collected via server logs and cookies.
Communications: Messages sent through our contact form or support email.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use your data to:

Create and manage your account and facilitate enrollment and session scheduling.
Match students with suitable tutors based on board, class, subject, and subject code.
Process payments and send booking confirmations and receipts.
Share relevant session progress notes between tutors, students, and linked parent accounts.
Send service-related communications (booking reminders, policy updates).
Respond to your support queries and resolve disputes.
Improve platform features, detect fraud, and ensure platform security.
Comply with legal and regulatory obligations.

3. Legal Basis for Processing (GDPR)

Where the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) applies, we process your data on the following legal bases: performance of a contract (to deliver our tutoring services), legitimate interests (platform security and improvement), and your consent (for optional marketing communications). You may withdraw consent at any time.

4. Data Sharing

We do not sell your personal data. We share data only with:

Tutors: Your name, class, board, and contact preference are shared with your assigned tutor to facilitate sessions.
Payment processors: Payment processor sharing is currently inactive while online payments are paused; it will resume once payment services are re-enabled.
Infrastructure providers: Hosting and cloud services (subject to appropriate data processing agreements).
Legal authorities: Where required by applicable law or a valid legal order.

5. Data Retention

We retain account data for as long as your account is active and for up to 36 months after account closure for legal and dispute-resolution purposes. Session progress notes are retained for 24 months. You may request earlier deletion by contacting support@MentorShield.com.

6. Cookies and Tracking

We use strictly necessary cookies for session management and login. We do not use third-party advertising cookies. You can manage or disable non-essential cookies through your browser settings, though this may affect platform functionality.

7. Children's Privacy

MentorShield serves students from Class 3 through Class 10. When a student is under 18, a parent or guardian must create the account and provide consent. We do not knowingly collect personal data from minors without parental consent. If you believe a child's data has been collected without consent, contact us immediately at support@MentorShield.com.

8. Data Security

We implement industry-standard technical and organisational measures — including encrypted storage, TLS in transit, and access controls — to protect your data against unauthorised access, disclosure, alteration, or destruction. No online transmission is entirely risk-free; we will notify you promptly in the event of a data breach affecting your information.

9. Your Rights

Depending on your jurisdiction, you have the right to:

Access a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
Correct inaccurate or incomplete data.
Request deletion of your data ("right to be forgotten").
Object to or restrict certain processing activities.
Receive your data in a portable format.
Withdraw consent for marketing communications at any time.
